He began playing guitar for All India
Radio in solo, duet, trio and orchestral
settings in 1951 while still a boy.
Even at that early age, Barun's fascination
towards the Hawaiian Guitar led to
his lifelong single minded dedication
towards his Instrument. He made some
basic changes to the instrument by
adding plucked strings (known as Chikari)
and sympathetic strings (known as
Tarab). He also pioneered a series
of structural changes to make this
instrument amenable to the depths
and tonal qualities of Indian Classical
Music. The development of this instrument
has been a passionate and continuous
process for Barun over three decades.
